Economy
Traditionally, the local economy depended heavily on the fishing industry. Over the years, however, tourism has over taken fisheries as the largest industry. In turn, it has fuelled the growth of small scale industries like handicrafts, jewellery designing, lacquer work etc. Other industries that have shown impressive growth in recent years include shipping, boat making, garments, manufacturing PVC pipes, repairing marine engines etc.
