| Economy |
Traditionally, the local economy
depended heavily on the fishing industry. Over the
years, however, tourism has over taken fisheries as the
largest industry. In turn, it has fuelled the growth of
small scale industries like handicrafts, jewellery
designing, lacquer work etc. Other industries that have
shown impressive growth in recent years include
shipping, boat making, garments, manufacturing PVC
pipes, repairing marine engines etc.
