After the economic crisis of 1997/98, Thailand’s
economy went into recession. Since, it has made rapid
progress, re-establishing Thailand’s position as one of
Asia’s strongest economies. Thailand is one of the
largest producers and exporters of rice and tin. Other
important industries include agriculture, fisheries,
tourism and textiles. The average daily cost of living for a tourist is
about 1000 THB; an average meal costs
anywhere between 20 THB to 80 THB.
